Florence, Football and Fun.
The Carolinas began bracing for Hurricane Florence as early as Thursday September 13. Aldersgate Executive Leadership is, as always, proactive and was making plans should severe damage occur, and evacuations become necessary. Saturday and Sunday, the winds did whip and we had a steady downpour. Some of our cottages lost power. But overall, the 231-acre-wooded campus of Aldersgate was blessed with minor storm impact.
So, plans for “emergency measures” turned into plans for a spur-of-the-moment “football party” – it was an unexpected and fun event that truly brought our elders and staff together.
Cable was out throughout the community. WHAT? No Carolina football? No way. Aldersgate tech guru and “man with a plan,” Randy Cook worked his magic. He was able to stream the Panthers/Falcon game through smart TVs in the Commons, much to everyone’s delight.
Football fan or not, everyone huddled together on an otherwise dreary Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. We had everything you need to have a party: beer, wine, snacks and a great crowd.
There are countless advantages to a Life Plan Community. We provide peace of mind during times like these, but, even more importantly, there are so many opportunities to engage with neighbors and staff that are practically family. In fact, Executive Leadership spent the weekend at Aldersgate with at least one Executive staying overnight in case of emergency.
So, while the Panthers didn’t win, the Aldersgate family did. Because you can’t beat a good time with friends and neighbors.
