A commitment to the community.

Volunteer opportunities at Aldersgate

You have a commitment to helping others, to bettering yourself and your spirit through giving.  We have the same spirit.  At Aldersgate, we provide volunteer opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds working with senior adults in our independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing areas.  Current opportunities include:

Snoezelen Volunteer
Snoezelen is a multi-sensory experience that combines sight, sound and smell to awaken the senses and create an atmosphere in which our physically and mentally challenged nursing home residents are free to relax, explore and communicate.  Volunteers are needed to help facilitate residents' experiences as they visit the Snoezelen Room.  Skills:  An open, caring heart, patience and flexibility.  Training on the philosophy and how to enhance residents' experience in the Snoezelen Room will be provided.

Primp and Pamper Volunteer
Enjoy helping others look their best?  Our ladies love being "pampered." Volunteers will provide  finishing touches with nail care. This would include removing old nail polish and applying new polish. The nail care activity takes place on the weekends. Staff do the nail trimming while volunteers help shape and polish.  A little hand massage with lotion and the final product?  An assisted living or  nursing home resident who feels good about the way they look!

Pianist/Keyboardist or Organist
Share the magic in your fingers as you play the tunes for resident Sing Alongs.  We've got the music, you've got the talent.  Can we get together?  Music touches most of our residents' lives and is the most popular activity.  If you don't do Sing Alongs, how about playing background music for special events?  For our organist, we need a rare breed of musician who enhances any worship experience!  Organists are needed to lead our nursing home and retirement congregations in worship.  Volunteer openings are available for a commitment as minimal as one Sunday a month either at 11:00 AM or 4:30 PM.  Services are 30-60 minutes in length.  Contact Brian Gardner at 704.532.7276 or
briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Personal Mender
Got a way with needle and thread?  Enjoy mending while listening to others reminisce?  A personal mender is needed to do small mending projects for residents who have visual deficits.  This will make you one of the most well loved volunteers in the facility!  Contact Brian Gardner at 704-532-7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Junior Volunteers
Between the ages of 13 and 18 and looking for a fun place to volunteer?  Volunteer opportunities are available for those wanting to spend 2-4 hours a couple of times a month working with the elderly.  Learn the joys of spending time with the elderly, while you also learn skills in working with seniors with physical limitations.  Youth need to be outgoing, willing to initiate conversations and interactions with seniors, show some initiative and have a positive up-beat spirit.  This is a great summer opportunity, or it can least year round.

Golf Cart Drivers
Fair weather drivers needed for facility's 6 man golf cart to take residents on rides through the beautiful gardens at Aldersgate.  These rides are a hit with many residents who can no longer get out of the facility on their own steam.  Must be at least 18 years of age.  Contact Brian Gardner at 704.532.7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Entertainment - We need entertainers!
Have a performing talent you'd like to showcase?  Residents enjoy visiting performers, lecturers, art exhibits, musicians, gymnasts, dog shows, garden exhibits, etc.  Entertainers are scheduled at least two months in advance.

Cooking Club
Love to cook or bake?  So do many of our residents who seldom get to do so anymore.  Cooking classes offer that hands-on, sensory experience of creating something from nothing.  Plus, you get to eat the results!  Assist staff in helping provide the cooking experience for our long time homemakers.  Contact Brian Gardner at 704.532.7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Bingo Caller
If Bingo is your game, then why not share the fun with our residents.  Callers are needed to lead Bingo games for residents at all levels of care.  If you don't have a loud voice, a microphone will help you project your voice.  Friendly, fun loving personality required.  Games scheduled at least once a month, as convenient for your schedule.  Contact Brian Gardner at 704.532.7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Adopt a Grandparent
If your family is spread all over the globe and you want your children to experience the joys of having a grandparent or extended local family, consider adopting a resident!  So many residents have outlived their families or their families live too far away to visit frequently.  They would love to have a visit from you and your family.  Visits can be scheduled at your convenience - days, nights or weekends.  Can you spare at least 1 day a month to love someone who feels unloved?  With this volunteer opportunity, you'll usually get more in return than you'll ever give.  Contact Brian Gardner at 704.532.7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com

Adopt a Garden
Got a green thumb, but no place to let it shine?  We've got a garden for you!  There are several gardens that need someone to love them.  Weeding, pruning and clipping can be therapy for the gardener and the resident who may no longer be able to garden, but enjoys watching someone else do it while talking to them.  Help a resident regain the pride of growing plants or vegetables as you assist them with planting, watering and tending to their garden.  There are even raised planters available for those who can't bend down that far.  Contact  Brian Gardner at 704.532.7272 or briang@aldersgateccrc.com
